broken america

we
we are
we are broke
we are brok(en)
we are brok(en) america

shattered by status
into slivers of class
then gathered like chattel
into houses of glass

we
we are
we are broke
we are brok(en)
we are brok(en) america

splintered by hue
into separate milieus
yet only a few
are afforded the view

we
we are
we are broke
we are brok(en)
we are brok(en) america

dismembered by religion
into headless congregations
scared into believing
in invading other nations

we
we are
we are broke
we are brok(en)
we are brok(en) America

contusions disguised
in a coat of confusion
but it can’t conceal
our scars of delusion

we
we are
we are broke
we are brok(en)
we are brok(en) America

diversity turned into
reason to open
the wounds
of an america broken

Nikki, now I see what rapper Foxy Brown meant when she said, "Fifteen percent would make the whole world sit up...and take notice."

You have mad skills.

Dang, I was ready to give Saadia some props on this until I scrolled down and saw Nikki bringing the joint. You just lighting it up in this piece.

Ms. Nikki, Have we expressed to you how honored we are that you are choosing to share your many creative sides here at our place? This is a powerfully political piece.
