The First Kiss

The Duet played on a nearby radio
As Lauryn Hill made it known that
Every chorus was written for us
And young men shouted in the distance
The ever-present smell of ganja
Wafted over the walls
Indiscreetly from neighboring yards
Ebbing and flowing
Carried on the shifting tropical breeze
Another shift
It was the pungent aroma of jerk spices
Joining the aromatic bouquet
But I was unmindful of all that
It was the sight of your lips
That intoxicated me
The look in your eyes
That still nourishes my obsession

I leaned forward
Put my lips to your ear
Part kiss
Part whisper
I pronounced your name
It is the name I gave you
A secret name that no one else may utter
Spoken in a language of our own
Forged in the furnace of our passion
You gasped then sighed
I smiled

Drawn by the scent of fresh strawberries
I grazed your lips with mine
Starting at the corner of your mouth
I traced their outline
Using the lingering tip of my tongue
Until we could hold no longer
Our mutual addiction was fixed forever
It all started with a kiss
A kiss of your strawberry lips

I hope you enjoyed this poem. I won’t be posting any love poems or erotic poems during the month of April. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) and I use every opportunity to spread the word. I’ll be posting poetry and photos all month but the theme will be SAAM. Anyone who knows me knows that I am PASSIONATE about this issue. The impact it has on society is immeasurable and I’m determined to do my part to help educate as many people as possible. Please join me in spreading the word.

Peace and Love,

Alizé

I love you! I love this POEM!

Years ago I ran a Rape Crisis Hotline and did Survivors of Rape Advocacy work. It was during that time that I came to grips with my childhood sexual abuse. Raising this issue is profoundly important and still very necessary. We live in an age that is so desensitized to violence against women that when we see it doesn't phase us nor outrages us. We have come to accept violence against women as part of the normal pop culture and as such we turn our heads.

I can't thank you enough for raising your strong and talented voice in this effort. You have my undying respect and admiration.

Thanks for raising the awareness, Xavier. How have you been brother? Your words and photo are both beautiful. Peace~

@LoveB: Thank you, thank you, and thank you. I was once a victim of sexual abuse but I’ll share that story next month. Today I’m no longer a victim or even a survivor. I’ve surpassed all that to be an overcomer. Despite working full-time and going to school, I spend hours every day helping people cope with the wreckage left in the wake of past abuse. I am absolutely dedicated to stopping the cycle of violence. Writing my book, Lovers Anonymous, was the most important step in my personal journey of recovery. Please know that the respect, admiration, and love is mutual. Working a Rape Crisis Hotline takes a lot of guts.

@ Prof Bess: Omigosh! I won’t even try to make any excuse for missing so much class. Mea culpa, mea culpa, maxima mea culpa! I have been doing ok, but honestly, I’m pushing myself too hard. I know I need to slow down, but there are so many souls... So many souls...

Peace and Love

I was kissed in Jamaica once...

Hmmmmm, that's an experience that was definitely worth repeating :) I can also relate to your reverie of her "strawberry lips" as there is a mole on a certain bottom lip that currently resides in this world that I would like to discover what it actually tastes like to see if indeed it even comes close to what I imagine it would taste like...

Hmmmmmmmm, the magic and wonder of first kisses...have mercy ;)

Your writing is refreshing...Lord knows I don't want to respond to them all!! lol..It's one thing to have a story to tell, it's another to be a story teller. Thats a craft I'm still working at. It might be a struggle, english/Lit was not my favs...lol
